‘Nocturno’ at PHotoESPAÑA festival, Spain
From 6 to 27 June 2025, a large selection of Cyrus’s recent works were exhibited at Estudio Carlos Garaicoa in Madrid alongside work by Cuban photographer Evelyn Sosa. Curated by Piero Tomassoni and Claudia Pérez, this dual exhibition was part of the acclaimed photography festival PHotoESPAÑA.
For the opening on 6 June, Cyrus participated in a ‘talk-and-paella’ event at the studio, giving a talk about his process and some of the ideas that inform his work. Some images below.

Cyrus Mahboubian's photography belongs to the nocturnal tradition—that which escapes the rational, the visible, the accelerated.
His images do not show us the world; they initiate us into its hidden rhythm. They harbour the invisible architectures of longing, erosion, remembrance. Their substance is time—a folded, mineral time, closer to geology than to narrative…
