A commission for a prominent commercial building in prime Covent Garden, London

Curated by HS Projects and installed in August 2025, Cyrus was excited to produce a series of brand-new works especially for 101 St Martin’s Lane, a prominent commercial building just beside Trafalgar Square in Central London.

Building on his recent “composites” (intimate works in which Polaroid photographs are cut-and-combined to produce surrealistic imagery), with this commission Cyrus took his aesthetic to a larger scale.

By bringing together unrelated images from his archive based on their visual qualities and how they interact with each other, photography ceases to be purely descriptive and instead exists somewhere between representation and abstraction. This relates to our experience of being immersed in nature and how our memory of the places we visit can be affected by the passage of time.

It is Cyrus’s hope that the works at 101 St Martin’s Lane will evoke our inherent connection to the natural world, as well as a sense of stillness and of wonder that allows the imagination to play a role when viewing them.

Titled An Expression of Desire, the commission comprises four archival pigment prints on Hahnemühle paper, each featuring hand-painted acrylic detail.
